Poke at Bristol Farms

We checked out the splendiferous new Bristol Farms in Westchester last night, and found a great surprise. Of all things, they have self-serve ahi tuna poke for sale, that you can buy by the pound. There are three versions, regular, spicy, and one other that I don't recall. And it's good! How 'bout that? We had quite a continental feast of sushi, poke, and and octopus salad.

That certainly sounds / looks delicious, but what's the difference between poke and sashimi? Does Poke have some standard spices or dressing rather than just wasabi on the side?

It's usually a soy sauce/seaweed/sesame oil sort of thing. When I had it at Sam Choy's in Honolulu, the fish was flash-fried, but the Bristol Farms version is raw.

Mmmmm yummy poke. I got addicted when I was in Maui. Tasty chunks of raw tuna!

Cats love it too.

Well, my cat prefers to poop outside the litterbox, but you don't see me going around saying that.
