Goodbye Cathy

It's so weird to, via the Web, share in the most intimate lives of people you've never met. It's weird, but it's a gift too. Laura chronicled her cancer in excruciating and moving detail, and I followed her journey every step of the way. I still think about her, and thank her for sharing it with us.

Cathy Seipp was just as honest with us on her blog. I never met her, but I still feel a great sense of loss today, knowing that she's fading. I wish Cathy and her family and friends all the best. If only there was something I could say that didn't sound ridiculous.

I think this is great.

The market always wins out.

"A Los Angeles fertility clinic has launched what it says is the first dedicated program for gay men wanting to become parents. The Fertility Institutes, already a pioneer in the controversial area of gender selection, said it was responding to huge demand from gay male couples around the world who want their own biological children but are often thwarted by prejudice and bureaucracy.”

Makes me cry every time

One of my favorite performers and songs. Pure joy. Be sure you wait until she really gets going.

Snoop Pearson

If you watch The Wire, I'm sure you've wondered about Snoop, the androgynous thug who nails up dead bodies in abandoned buildings, shops for nail guns at Home Depot, and talks in a husky voice that betrays a touch of sociopathy. She's unlike anything you've ever seen on TV - charismatic, a little scary, and strangely touching.

The Wire is as authentic as it gets, and Snoop always seemed like they had just plucked her off the street and put her in front of the camera. And so they did. Thanks Omar!

Icky Thump

Thank you Jack and Meg!

Odd title aside, what we do know for sure is that the album was tracked at Blackbird Studio in Jack White's adopted hometown of Nashville, and among the songs to be included are "Catch Hell Blues," "Little Cream Soda," "Rag and Bone" and "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You're Told)." We're not quite sure what to make of word that the song "Monkeys Have It Easy" has been "discarded" or that "Clicky Bump" was "retitled into something pleasant." Oh, right, we get it.
